Sustainability

Our Objective

At Trinity Bay Saltwater Barramundi Farm, sustainability isn't just a goal — it's the foundation of everything we do. Our saltwater barramundi are raised with care, precision, and respect for the planet, ensuring that every bite supports a healthier future for people and the environment.

The Ideal Fish for a Sustainable Future

Barramundi is often called the "perfect fish" — and for good reason. It’s fast-growing, requires relatively low feed input compared to other carnivorous fish, and thrives in aquaculture environments. Saltwater barramundi are hardy and naturally efficient, making them an ideal choice for responsible seafood production.

Saltwater Farming:
Cleaner by Nature

Our saltwater systems are designed to minimize environmental impact. Unlike freshwater operations, saltwater aquaculture avoids depleting inland water sources and reduces risk of disease transfer to wild freshwater species. Saltwater farming also allows us to recycle and manage water more efficiently, creating a closed-loop system that protects surrounding ecosystems.

Protecting Biodiversity

Our farms are located away from sensitive marine habitats to avoid disrupting local wildlife. We implement strict biosecurity measures to prevent escapes and genetic interference with wild fish populations. Our commitment to transparency and traceability ensures that our operations meet and exceed environmental standards.

Responsible Feed Practices

Feed is one of the largest inputs in aquaculture — and also one of the biggest opportunities to make a difference. We use sustainably sourced, high-efficiency feeds that reduce the need for wild-caught fishmeal. Our diets are formulated for optimal nutrition and minimal waste, helping to maintain water quality while supporting healthy fish gro

Low Carbon, Low Footprint

Compared to other animal proteins, barramundi production has a lower carbon footprint, uses less freshwater, and requires less land. We continuously optimize our operations to cut down on energy use and emissions, aiming for a leaner, greener supply chain from hatchery to harvest.

Animal Welfare First

Healthy fish are happy fish. We prioritize animal welfare with stress-free handling, optimal stocking densities, and naturalistic conditions. Our husbandry protocols are designed around the well-being of each barramundi, promoting robust immune systems and reducing the need for antibiotics or chemical treatments.

Community & Responsibility

Sustainability includes people, too. We support local economies by creating fair, long-term employment and working with community stakeholders to ensure our impact is positive and lasting. Education, training, and knowledge-sharing are key to building a future we all believe in.
